“We have a true passion for this amazing place.”

Our Story

For Wood Lovell, the Highlands, North Carolina area has always been an important part of his life, spending summers with his family since the 1960s escaping the hot Atlanta summers. Wood introduced Jody to the area in 1996, and the rest is history.

They bought a mountain home in one of the area’s private clubs and spent as much time as they could there. After retiring early from successful careers in 2000, Highlands became their full time home, a love affair that continues to this day.

Jody and Wood moved to Highlands in 2000 and started Cullasaja Realty with one location at the gate of Cullasaja Club of Highlands. After being awarded the prestigious Sotheby’s International Realty franchise in 2008, they opened a second location in downtown Highlands across from The Old Edwards Inn and Spa which was voted the Number One Hotel Spa in the United States by Conde Nast

In 2016, Wood and Jody further expanded the Sotheby’s brand by opening a third office in Cashiers, North Carolina.  This new office, prominently located in the commercial district of Cashiers, is reflective of the upward trajectory of the luxury real estate market on the Highlands-Cashiers plateau.

Jody and Wood are members of Cullasaja Club of Highlands, Capital City Club in Atlanta, Frederica Golf and Lake Club on St. Simons Island and Brunswick Country Club in South Georgia. Despite these options available to them, Highlands, North Carolina remains their favorite place in the world.

“Amazingly Ever After”

Exurbia

The Lovells personify the recent migration to the mountains – a phenomenon referred to as the “Exurbia” movement. Sociologists define the Exurbia exodus as a population shift from major cities to high-quality small towns within a 100-mile radius. The Highlands/Cashiers/Lake Toxaway plateau is the epicenter of Exurbia.

Jody and Wood Lovell started Cullasaja Realty in 2000 with the intention of creating a small boutique real estate company that would focus on the demands of the luxury market, yet never outgrew a founding philosophy for meeting the uniquely individual concerns of discriminating clients from around the world. That vision, and a lot of hard work, caused them to quickly become sales leaders in the high-end residential market.

Based on their proven track record with luxury properties, they were awarded the prestigious Sotheby’s International Realty franchise for the Highlands/Cashiers/Lake Toxaway area in December of 2008. The Sotheby’s brand greatly strengthened their position as the premier firm in the area, not only selling more of their own listings each year than any other company on the plateau, but also outselling all real estate companies in the Highlands area.

In 2009, a second office was opened in downtown Highlands, which is now located on Main Street across from The Old Edwards Inn and Spa. Locals refer to this corner of downtown as “Times Square,” and indeed this strategic location will assist Highlands Sotheby’s International Realty to maintain its position as the premier real estate company on the Highlands plateau for years to come. Highlands Sotheby’s International Realty offers discriminating clients from around the world the finest in Western North Carolina real estate. From large estate tracts to condominiums and cottages, they market an extraordinary selection of homes and land across all price ranges.
